Robert Cawsey

Biography

Robert Cawsey is a Welsh actor, writer, and comedian who grew up in the seaside town of Penarth, Wales. He moved to London in his late teens to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, followed by a stint at the École Philippe Gaulier in Paris, where he trained as a clown and bouffon. Struggling to find enough work as an actor, he turned to writing and created the comedy double act Guilt & Shame with Gabriel Bisset-Smith, performing sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre, and festivals across the UK. Their podcast, featuring director Vicky Jones (who directed Fleabag), developed a large international audience. His debut solo show, Simon Slack: The Fantasist, was produced by Soho Theatre and directed by Jones. He wrote and starred in the web series Right Now (2018–), a comedy about Grindr hook-ups, which won Best International Spotlight at Melbourne WebFest 2020 and Best Actor at both UKOWF and Santa Monica Web Fest (2021). He has since worked in writers' rooms for HBO, NBC, Disney, BBC, and Amazon, and collaborated with J.J. Abrams's Bad Robot on a script commission from Warner Bros.. His debut feature screenplay, Don't Even Go There, topped the 2025 Brit List with 24 recommendations. His acting filmography includes Starter for 10 (2006, as a University Challenge Competitor), Dreams of a Life (2011, as Strippogram), Carnage: Swallowing the Past (2017, as Confused Man), Holmes & Watson (2018, as Waiter), Cruella (2021, as Swanky Bar Waiter), 1899 (2022, as Porter, recurring), One Day (2024, as Pete), My Lady Jane (2024, as Kingsland Guard), The Ballad of Renegade Nell (2024, as Vicar), Boys in the Boat (2023, as Regatta Starter), and Death Valley (2025, as Gav). His most prominent credit to date is Gallows Master in Wuthering Heights (2026), alongside his comedy partner Gabriel Bisset-Smith as the Hangman. He is represented by Innovate Talent and Curtis Brown in the UK, and CAA in the US.
